Vanuily, a 45-foot yacht, is heading toward the Northwest Passage
Having set sail in mid-July aboard their Allures 45 Vanuily, Anne and Hugues are currently undertaking an extraordinary sailing expedition: attempting to navigate the Northwest Passage. After sailing up the western coast of Greenland, they have now reached the Canadian Arctic.
During the first few weeks of this voyage, the Vanuily sailed from Nuuk to northern Greenland, through the fjords and landscapes of Disko Bay, and then on to Upernavik, the last major stop before crossing Baffin Bay.
On this route, Anne and Hugues regularly run into Hafiz, Sadik’s Garcia Explocat 52, which is also attempting the Northwest Passage. The two boats sail at their own pace, but their paths cross several times: off the coast of Greenland, at Upernavik, and then on the other side of Baffin Bay.
After crossing into Canada, Vanuily arrived in Pond Inlet on the night of August 2–3. Anne and Hugues met up with the Hafiz crew there before continuing westward, notably through Navy Board Inlet.
On August 8, the latest available information indicates that the Vanuily was at Burnett Inlet on Devon Island, already at anchor when the Hafiz arrived there. Their further progress now depends on the conditions they encounter further west and on how the ice situation develops in the Canadian Arctic.
